Concerned About Heart Health? We’re Here to Help!
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for women in the United States—yet many women don’t realize just how significantly cardiovascular health shapes every stage of life. From the postpartum years to menopause and beyond, heart health plays a powerful role in long-term well-being.
A few important facts:
Heart disease is the #1 killer of women in the United States.
Heart disease is the #1 killer of new moms in the United States.
Menopause doesn’t directly cause heart disease, but it can accelerate changes that increase the risk of future cardiac problems.
These statistics are heavy—but there is good news. Heart disease is often preventable, or at least manageable, through consistent lifestyle habits like exercise, balanced nutrition, and stress management.
We hear that message—exercise, diet, stress management—so often that it can start to fade into background noise. But even small, sustainable improvements in these areas can make a meaningful and lasting difference in heart health.
How Much Exercise Do You Really Need?
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends:
At least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity cardio per week
or75 minutes of vigorous-intensity cardio, spread throughout the week
The terms “moderate” and “vigorous” can feel vague, so here are concrete exercise examples from the American Heart Association:
Moderate-Intensity Activity
Brisk walking (at least 2.5 mph)
Water aerobics
Ballroom or social dancing
Gardening
Doubles tennis
Biking slower than 10 mph
Vigorous-Intensity Activity
Hiking uphill or with a heavy backpack
Running
Swimming laps
Vigorous aerobic dancing
Heavy yardwork (continuous digging or hoeing)
Singles tennis
Cycling 10 mph or faster
Jumping rope
